How is our use of language shaped by the place from which we originally
come? What is the relationship between landscape and lyrical control?
During this relaxed and fun group session with Irish poet Ní Churreáin,
students will be encouraged to draw upon autobiographical experiences of
built and wild environments to explore the art and craft of composing
poetry. Using the central theme of origins, this three-hour engagement will
create a space in which you can use creative writing to experiment with text,
gain confidence in the process of generating ideas and to begin editing
poems. Join us for a reading from Ní Churreáin’s Bloodroot collection,
discussion and activities including written exercises. No previous experience
of writing required. All welcome!

Limit 10. One scholarship will be offered.

NÍ CHURREÁIN is a poet from northwest Ireland. Her debut collection
Bloodroot (Doire Press, 2017) was shortlisted for the Shine Strong Award for
best first collection in Ireland and for the 2018 Julie Suk Award in the U.S.A.
She is the author of a suite of poems about Dublin titled Town (The Salvage
Press, 2018).

Jules' Poetry Playhouse is in beautiful Placitas, New Mexico, a couple of miles off the freeway, just past the Merc shopping center. Directions will be sent upon registration.

Book is NOT required, and will be available at the session for purchase at the discounted rate of $10 USD.

We recommend buying the book on site, as it may take awhile to ship from the Irish publisher.
