Rise up to your purpose!
The Power of Purpose - a five-week class that will help stir your passions, build your artistic dreams and help you focus on living your life the way that you imagine it to be. We will focus on specific goals, career-wise and personal to connect your personal vision to your empowerment. You will learn how to identify the particular issues and goals that are of significance to you, and also how to sustain your focus, no matter what happens along the way. It is especially focused on writers and artists, however it is open to anyone!
Power of Purpose and Hot Air Ballooning
Lately I’ve been hot-air ballooning every month or so with some Albuquerque friends. When one goes ballooning there is never any guarantee of where we will end up or even if we get to launch, it all depends on the wind. You can’t steer a balloon. However, a good pilot can rise up and down to catch the wind at the right altitude to take him or herself where he/she wants to go. With some flexibility along with the right attitude and skills, the balloon will land in the destination area desired. It requires being ready to launch at sunrise and getting out of bed early on a weekend. It also takes teamwork. A balloon can’t launch alone, you need a good ground crew for takeoff and landing. Ballooning is a great metaphor for Power of Purpose. Life is constantly changing, like the wind, and Power of Purpose has given me the skills to be a good ‘pilot’ to help navigate the constantly changing landscape and wind currents. I also have learned to surround myself with supportive friends, my ‘crew.’ It is fulfilling to be the pilot, the passenger, and also just as much fun (almost) working on the crew and seeing the balloon have a successful launch and landing.
I originally took the Power of Purpose workshop through my workplace, Capella University, as a 5 week session and I was very impressed with how it helped me move forward with my life - my main issue at the time was deciding to move to Albuquerque. Since them I have taken more training and am now a certified trainer for this program.
What is Power of Purpose?
The Power of Purpose is an experiential learning course customized for artists designed to help you:
•Learn to define and express your deepest life purposes and values
•Gain a grasp of what lies behind your power to create, envision and achieve results and break through behaviors
•Uncover the hidden agendas that stop you from achieving all you seek to create (get unstuck!)
Class dates: Wednesdays 6-9 pm September 21 – October 19, 2011
(we start promptly at 6, come by 5:45 to get settled, beverages provided)
Location: The lovely home of Amy Gardner in Corrales, NM. She is just north of Albuquerque. Directions given upon registration.
What do I need to bring?
The only thing you need to bring is a pen or pencil and an open heart and mind. Course materials will be given to you during the sessions. Cost includes audio CD's to listen to in between sessions that are yours to keep and a notebook with all materials that you take with you each week. There will be some at-home exercises to work on between class sessions.
Special introductory pricing!
Since I am just starting to teach these sessions in Albuquerque, I want to make this class affordable to everyone. I would love to have you come and help spread the word about the classes at this intro rate. I will be offering these classes later at a higher rate, so join in now while the pricing may work better for you!
$25 per session, $125 for 5 weeks (regular rate is $200)
Checks payable for the 5 week session amount to "Kairos More to Life Foundation." Payment for first class due at or before first class session. No credit cards, however I will also accept cash and give you a receipt. Price includes all class sessions and all of your materials. You may also pay per class if that is more convenient for you.
How many students in each class? We have a maximum of 8 spaces, so register early!

Jules Nyquist – instructor
Jules is a published poet that experiments with form, sound and performance and has performed her work at many venues in Albuquerque including the Filling Station (Encyclopedia Show) and Page One Books. A native Minnesotan, she earned her MFA in writing and literature (poetry) at Bennington College, Vermont. She is an enrollment counselor for Capella University and also teaches writing classes, along with Power of Purpose workshops. She lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
