An intimate class session, followed by an outdoor house concert of poetry, music and storytelling especially for the Jules' Poetry Playhouse audience.
This workshop takes apart the inner workings of song concepts and ballad poetry structures so we can better learn how to put them back together--or together to begin with. We'll also cover the nature and importance of performing our songs or poems, along with the basic principles of being behind the microphone and in front of an audience.
- Topic and lyric generation - with a special focus on post-pandemic and re-entry experiences.
- The four key structures to hang our stories on
- Detail and Description... but just the right amount
- Rethinking titles and first lines
- Finding a song or poem’s main goal and theme, and sticking to it
- How to better perform and share our writing
We will have time in this small group setting to have students optionally "perform" or read their work at the end of class time, or before Nathan's evening concert.
